Help your kids get into the Olympic spirit with Honolulu Theatre for Youth’s “The Three Year Swim Club.”
The play by Lee A. Tonouchi is based on the true story of plantation-era high school students on Maui who wanted to compete in the Olympics. Under swimming coach Soichi Sakamoto, the students begin their training in sugar field irrigation ditches, following the motto “Olympics First, Olympics Always.”
Cast members Maile Holck (Fujiko “Fudge” Katsutani), Junior Tesoro (Kiyoshi “Keo” Nakama), Q (Takashi “Halo” Hirose) and Moses Goods (William “Bill” Smith) will take turns playing Coach Sakamoto.
Showtime is 4:30 p.m. today and Saturdays through March 6. Tickets are $8 for children and $16 general, with discounts for college students, seniors and active-duty military.
All performances will be at Tenney Theatre at the Cathedral Church of St. Andrew. For information, call 839-9885 or visit www.htyweb.org.
