The mercurial season of Dwain Williams took yet another downturn with the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team.

Williams was suspended indefinitely yesterday by head coach Bob Nash for a violation of team rules related to academics.

"I don't want to get into the details," Nash said. "It's just indefinite right now."

It is the latest twist in what has already been a drama-filled season for the junior guard.

Williams, who is in his first season at Hawai'i, has already missed eight games for various reasons.

He was previously suspended for two games for violating team rules related to academics. He then sat out a game due to a shoulder injury.

Most recently, Williams missed the past five games following the death and funeral of his cousin in California. He returned to the team for two practices this week, but his suspension started yesterday.

He will almost certainly sit out tomorrow's game against Fresno State at the Stan Sheriff Center, and Nash did not want to speculate on Williams' return.

"It is what it is," Nash said. "We'll be monitoring the situation every day and see where it goes from there."

Williams is second on the team in scoring with 14.0 points per game. Despite playing in only 14 of the team's 22 games, he leads the 'Bows with 31 3-pointers.

"We've made adjustments all season long for guys who have been injured or out with other problems," Nash said. "This is just another adjustment."
