HA‘ENA — Due to safety reasons, Ha‘ena Beach Park will be closed to the public for about a week while the parking lot is being resurfaced, a county news release states.

The work is scheduled to begin on Monday and is expected to be completed by Feb. 18, weather permitting.
The project will include: leveling of the parking lot, placement of crushed coral and the creation of new ADA compliant stalls.
The resurfacing of the parking lot is part of an overall project to improve this popular visitor destination.
A new comfort station, walkway and septic system are also under construction. The old comfort station has already been removed.
Shioi Construction was awarded a $549,000 contract last October for the improvement project, with $250,000 coming from the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority in the form of a grant, and the balance to be financed through the county’s capital improvement program.
The HTA grant received by the County was from the Tourism Special Fund, which is designated for projects that aim to improve priority natural resource sites frequented by visitors.
