New swell bringing big waves to north, west shores

A new northwest swell will be generating big waves this afternoon along north- and west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai, and on west-facing shores of Maui.
The National Weather Service has issued a high-surf advisory that is expected to remain in effect from 4 this afternoon to 6 a.m. Friday.
Niihau and Kauai can expect 15- to 18-foot surf on north shores this afternoon, the weather service said. Similar surf will build on Oahu and Maui through the evening.
