Hawai'i's Michelle Wie was still looking up after opening with a 7-under-par 66 yesterday in the LPGA's Tres Marias Championship at Morelia, Mexico.
Despite a round of six birdies, an eagle and a lone bogey, the Punahou alum and current Stanford student found herself three shots behind Japan's Ai Miyazato.
Miyazato, who won the first two events of the LPGA season, shot 10-under 63 at Tres Marias Country Club, which is 6,500 feet above sea level.
Spanish rookie Azahara Munoz opened with a 65, and top-ranked Lorena Ochoa, who will retire after the tournament, matched Wie with a 66.
"There are a lot of birdies and eagles out there," Wie said. "It's a constant grind to keep making birdies, and even if you are making birdies you're not really above anyone else."
