ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — David Price finally got to finish what he started.

Price threw a four-hitter, John Jaso and Jason Bartlett had two RBIs apiece and the Rays beat Toronto, 6-0, yesterday.

"I've always believed that when a young pitcher can throw a complete game shutout it does do something for their confidence," Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said. "And to do it in a minimal number of pitches like that, 108, that's really good also. I just think it's a carry-over kind of thing."

Price (3-1) struck out nine and walked one in his first complete game. He improved to 9-1 in his career against the AL East.

"Now I know what it takes," Price said. "I've been there and I've done that now. I've got that first little taste in my mouth. Now I want more. On this staff, five or six innings isn't enough. We want to go seven, eight or nine, and that's what these guys have been doing all year."

Blue Jays catcher Jose Molina threw out a runner trying to steal second — including Carl Crawford twice — in each of the first four innings. The four runners thrown out attempting to steal in the same game by Molina set a Toronto team record.

ANGELS 8, YANKEES 4

Bobby Abreu and Kendry Morales homered, Brandon Wood drove in the go-ahead runs with a bases-loaded double and host Los Angeles handed New York its first series loss of the season.

Scott Kazmir (2-1) allowed four runs, three hits and four walks in 5 1/3 innings. New York had won its first five series, including a three-game set against the Angels in the Bronx.

WHITE SOX 3, MARINERS 2

Paul Konerko hit a tiebreaking drive in the eighth inning for his major league-best eighth homer and host Chicago completed a three-game series sweep of Seattle.

John Danks (3-0) allowed two runs and eight hits in eight innings. Konerko connected against Brandon League (2-1) to put the White Sox ahead 3-2.

ROYALS 4, TWINS 3

Jose Guillen homered and drove in two runs to support Brian Bannister and help host Kansas City avoid a three-game sweep by Minnesota.

Guillen hit his seventh homer in the fifth inning and Bannister (1-1) scattered nine hits over 6 1/3 innings.

ORIOLES 7, RED SOX 6, 10 INNINGS

Rhyne Hughes singled in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning and Matt Wieters followed with a two-run single, helping Baltimore snap a 10-game losing streak against host Boston with its third win of the season.

Miguel Tejada added a two-run homer for Baltimore, which overcame a 4-1 deficit.

RANGERS 8, TIGERS 4

Michael Young had three hits and drove in five runs and David Murphy homered as host Texas beat Detroit.

Colby Lewis (3-0) allowed four runs and seven hits over 6 1/3 innings while matching a career high with 10 strikeouts.

ATHLETICS 11, INDIANS 0

Eric Chavez hit a two-run double and also singled in a run to help Gio Gonzalez win for the first time in three starts as host Oakland beat Cleveland.

Gonzalez (2-1) gave up five hits in seven innings.

REDS 5, PADRES 4

Ramon Hernandez hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the eighth inning and host Cincinnati rallied to end the San Diego's eight-game winning streak.

Francisco Cordero got Jerry Hairston Jr. to fly out to center with runners on first and third to end the game for his seventh save.

CARDINALS 2, GIANTS 0

Brad Penny, Jason Motte and Ryan Franklin combined for a nine-hitter and Albert Pujols hit his team-leading seventh homer, helping St. Louis avoid a series sweep by host San Francisco.

Penny (3-0) gave up eight hits over 7 2/3 innings and didn't allow a runner past second base.

NATIONALS 1, DODGERS 0

Scott Olsen pitched seven strong innings for his first victory since having shoulder surgery in July, leading host Washington over Los Angeles.

Olsen (1-1) allowed six hits, walked one and struck out eight in his third start since being recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on April 15.

CUBS 12, BREWERS 2

Derrek Lee hit a towering 445-foot homer and Ryan Theriot had five hits to help Chicago complete the three-game sweep of host Milwaukee.

Randy Wells (2-0) continued Chicago's string of strong starting pitching performances, allowing two runs in seven innings.

ROCKIES 8, MARLINS 4

Seth Smith homered twice and host Colorado beat Florida after attending an emotional Coors Field memorial service for team president Keli McGregor, 48, who passed away unexpectedly last week.

Jorge De La Rosa (3-1) allowed two earned runs in five innings and Miguel Olivo also homered for the Rockies.

DIAMONDBACKS 8, PHILLIES 6

Mark Reynolds hit a tiebreaking RBI double in the eighth inning and finished with three hits, including a three-run homer, to lead host Arizona over Philadelphia.

Reynolds had a season-high four RBIs and Chris Young added three hits, including two doubles, for Arizona.

ASTROS 10, PIRATES 3

Lance Berkman hit his first home run, Carlos Lee and Pedro Feliz drove in two runs apiece and host Houston completed a three-game sweep of Pittsburgh.

Brett Myers (1-1) allowed 11 singles and struck out six in six innings and Michael Bourn tied a single-game career high with three steals.

METS 1, BRAVES 0, 6 INNINGS, RAIN

Mike Pelfrey (4-0) pitched out of constant trouble to extend his scoreless streak to 24 innings and host New York finished a three-game sweep of Atlanta in a game cut short by rain.

A throwing error by third baseman Chipper Jones allowed Jose Reyes to score in the first inning. Play was stopped after one pitch in the sixth when rain intensified, and the game was called following a 98-minute delay.
