Missionary descendant's wife, Vivienne Cooke, 97

Vivienne Schmid Raven Cooke, a former Honolulu resident who married missionary descendant Richard A. Cooke, died March 30 in San Mateo, Calif. She was 97.

She was raised in Shanghai and lived in England, San Francisco, China and Honolulu. In Honolulu, the Cookes lived in the Ossipoff house, whose grounds now are home to The Contemporary Museum in Makiki Heights. She was a longtime trustee of The Honolulu Academy of Arts.

Cooke won swimming championships in her Shanghai and Hong Kong days. At the age of 86, she took first place in the 50-yard freestyle in a National Masters meet on the Mainland.

Richard Cooke died in 1999.

She is survived by two children, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. At her request, no services were held.
