UH-Hilo, HPU split in softball

Sarah Weisskopf pitched a five-hitter and Jessica Schatz bunted in Nicole Alconcel in the sixth as host Hawai'i-Hilo beat Hawai'i Pacific, 1-0, to earn a split of a Pacific West Conference doubleheader yesterday.
Weisskopf walked none and struck out one.
In the first game, Sherise Musquiz pitched a seven-hitter and had a two-run single in the first as Hawai'i Pacific beat Hilo, 2-0.
Hilo is 31-13 and 19-9; HPU is 37-6 and 22-4.

BASEBALL
PEARL CITY UMPIRE TOWORK WORLD SERIES
Clifton Yaguchi of Pearl City was among 16 umpires selected to work this summer at the 64th Little League Baseball World Series at South Williamsport, Pa.
The tournament for 11- and 12-year-olds will be played Aug. 20 to 29.
An umpire is eligible to be selected for a World Series assignment once every four years.
Thirteen of the umpires are from the United States.
All umpires were nominated by a district administrator.
To be considered for selection, an umpire must have previously worked a recent regional in the same Little League division as the World Series they are being considered for.
GOLF
UH MEN FINISH LAST AT SANTA CRUZ, CALIF.
The University of Hawai'i men's golf team came in 12th — and last — with an 84-over 1,134 total yesterday at the Western Intercollegiate at Santa Cruz, Calif.
Oregon won the team title with a three-round total of 12-under 1038. UCLA was second, seven strokes back.
Hawai'i's top finisher was TJ Kua, who finished tied for 23rd at 217. Teammate Cory Oride finished tied for 28th at 218.
Oregon's Eugene Wong took medalist honors with an 8-under 202 total.
