SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA, Spain — Alberto Contador of Spain has become the first rider to win a third Vuelta de Castilla and Leon title by finishing in the pack in the race's fifth and final stage.
Sergio Ribeiro of Portugal won the 106.6-mile leg from Samos to Santiago de Compostela on Sunday, while Contador beat Igor Anton by 41 seconds for the overall title. Ezequiel Mosquera was another 39 seconds back.
The win gave Contador, a two-time Tour de France champion, his third road-race victory of the year. He also won the Paris-Nice and Tour of Algarve events.
