Hawaiian Airlines was the nation's top-ranked carrier for on-time performance and fewest flight cancellations in February, according to a report from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Hawaiian had an industry-best 88.2 percent of its flights arrive as scheduled in February, along with an industry-low score of 0.3 percent for fewest canceled flights, to rank first in both categories.

In addition, Hawaiian ranked second overall for fewest misplaced bags during February, reporting 1.89 mishandled baggage reports for every 1,000 passengers served.

The DOT report covers 18 airlines, including eight carriers providing service to Hawai'i.

OUTRIGGER SHOWROOM CHANGING HANDS

The Outrigger Waikiki hotel's Main Showroom will change hands next week when a veteran performer and a local businessman take over operations and bookings for the nightclub.

World Class Entertainment, headed by Society of Seven founder-leader Tony Ruivivar and businessman Clyde "Tiger" Shirai, will assume operations at the showroom in a deal signed yesterday.

The showroom, a Waikīkī landmark since the 1960s, is one of the few surviving venues where locally produced shows continue to be featured.

"It's a huge sigh of relief," said Frannie Kirk, who ran the venue for 40 years.

"I'm happy the showroom will continue and some of the staff — bartenders, waitresses — will have jobs," said Kirk, who will retire effective tomorrow as executive vice president of Outrigger entertainment.

HAGADONE PRINTING CHIEF STEPPING DOWN

Hagadone Printing Co. president Erwin Hudelist will leave the company later this year because of a health issue, the company said yesterday.

Hudelist has led the state's largest printing company since 1998.

The Hawai'i Publishers Association yesterday presented Hudelist with the Industry Person of the Year 2010 Award.
