A woman who told police her 23-year-old boyfriend tried to throw her off the 11th floor of a Waikīkī building Friday night said the man had smoked "spice," a marijuana substitute, a few hours before the incident and had a "very aggressive" reaction to it.

Bryan Adam Roudebush was charged with attempted second-degree murder. His bail was set at $100,500.

According to a police statement filed in District Court, the woman, 25, told police that Roudebush bought the pseudo marijuana at an unidentified local market and smoked it, becoming increasingly aggressive in the hours that followed.

The woman said Roudebush pinned her to the ground and punched her numerous times on the face before pushing her out onto the balcony of the building at 2611 Ala Wai Blvd.

The woman told police veins were protruding from Roudebush's neck and that he tried to push her over the 11th-floor balcony railing "numerous times," according to the police statement.

The girlfriend said Roudebush grabbed her by the hair to prevent her from leaving the room and "attempted to gouge her eyes (out) with his hands," according to the statement filed in court.

Police said the woman was finally able to break free and call for help, receiving assistance from a neighbor.

The product is a mixture of herbs and spices sprayed with a synthetic compound chemically similar to THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana. Though banned in most of Europe, its key ingredients aren't regulated in the U.S.
