MLB: Renteria to miss the rest of the season

SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco Giants shortstop Edgar Renteria will have surgery on his right elbow to remove bone chips and spurs.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said before Friday night's game against the Chicago Cubs that he would like to see Renteria take care of the problem and start on a rehab program before the season ends.
Renteria was one of the Giants' biggest offseason acquisitions, signing a 2-year, $18.5 million deal to replace Omar Vizquel.
Renteria hit a career-worst .250 in 124 games with five home runs and 48 RBIs. He averages .290, almost 10 homers and 63 RBIs.
He is expected back for spring training.
