DHT offering ‘Theatre ABC’s’ on furlough Fridays

Advertiser Staff

Diamond Head Theatre announced today it will offer “Theatre ABC’s”, a series of musical theatre classes, to fill the furlough Friday gap with an opportunity for learning and fun.

Students ages 6 to 12 will be accepted — no musical experience required. Classes will run from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the fall semester of furlough Fridays, starting Oct. 23.
Tuition is $350 for the semester. Enrollment must be for all seven classes; a single-class option is not available. The class is designed as a service to students and their parents.
“We see this as an opportunity to provide a valuable use of the time off from school by expanding our performing arts program and creating sessions to teach theatre basics,” said DHT Executive Director Deena Dray. “Many young people find a great way to express themselves, expand skills and gain a new confidence through musical theatre, whether they are on stage or working in the wings.”
A news release from DHT said the theater plans to hire furloughed DOE performing arts teachers to help them earn needed income. They will work with DHT Artistic Director John Rampage and the staff of DHT’s popular performing arts program for young people and adults.
The classes will teach music, dance and acting, plus provide workshops on other stage basics. Students will also be invited to attend a free preview performance of the DHT holiday show, “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.”
For information on the “Theatre ABC’s” program, call Kelly Moulson at 733-0277 ext. 306 or visit www.diamondheadtheatre.com. Class space will be limited and students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
