Man arrested for truck theft, hitting police with table leg

Advertiser Staff

A 39-year-old man was arrested yesterday morning after police said a man stole a truck and later assaulted two police officers who were trying to arrest him.

Brad T. Brazeal, who gave no local address, was booked on two counts of first-degree assault of a police officer, two counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, breaking into a vehicle, theft and resisting arrest. He remained in police custody pending charges.

At about 7:30 a.m. yesterday, a witness told police that a man stole a truck in Kaka'ako and drove the vehicle for about a block. The man got out of the truck and tried to steal another vehicle, police said.

Unable to do so, the man fled on foot, police said. Officers found the suspect in a business on Waimanu Street and tried to arrest him.

Police said the man resisted, tried to grab an officer's gun from its holster and hit two officers with a wooden table leg. The officers subdued the man and arrest him.

During a search of the man, police said they recovered two stolen credit cards. The suspect and the two officers were treated for their injuries.
