Jake Shimabukuro will make his Paris debut when he diverts from his current Japan tour to perform Sept. 24 at New Morning.

Shimabukuro has been in Europe, and performed in France — he played in Nice in July — but this will be his first show in Paris.

The award-winning 'ukulele virtuoso's next Hawai'i gig will be Nov. 7 and 8 at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea, on the Big Island. He also has a pair of Honolulu Marathon events Dec. 11 and 13 in Waikiki. His only other Honolulu show this year will be a freebie Dec. 14 at Jimmy Buffett's at the Beachcomber at the Ohana Beachcomber hotel.

'LOST SYMBOL' SELLS 1 MILLION ON 1ST DAY

Dan Brown does it again, on paper and on the screen.

Doubleday announced yesterday that "The Lost Symbol," Brown's first novel since "The Da Vinci Code," already has sold more than 1 million copies after being on sale for one day in the United States, Canada and Britain. That total includes preorders for the book, which has been at or near the top of www.Amazon.com for months.

An additional 600,000 hardcover copies have been ordered, bringing the total print run to 5.6 million copies. "The Lost Symbol" came out Tuesday. Brown's book was well short of the all-time debut, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," which in its first day sold more than 8 million copies in the U.S. alone.

SINGING FARMER TAKES 'TALENT' TITLE

LOS ANGELES — Kevin Skinner flew the coop with the grand prize on "America's Got Talent."

The singing chicken farmer from Mayfield, Ky., was awarded the NBC talent competition's $1 million grand prize and a headlining spot at a Las Vegas show. Skinner received the most viewer votes on last night's season finale, overcoming runner-up Barbara Padilla, an opera singer from Houston, and eight other finalists. The win brought Skinner to tears.

"I've always loved to perform," he said. "I want to go out there, and give 'em the best show I can."

The humble country singer will headline an "America's Got Talent" show at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino hosted by Jerry Springer in October. Skinner beat out music quartet Recycled Percussion from Goffstown, N.H.; crooning trio the Texas Tenors from Houston; and sibling act Voices of Glory from Highland, N.Y.

BEYONCÉ MAY BE TOO 'FIERCE' FOR A&F

Abercrombie & Fitch Co. has sued singer Beyoncé, saying her plan for a fragrance named after her alter ego Sasha Fierce violates the clothing retailer's trademark.

The chain, which has sold a men's fragrance called Fierce since 2002, wants a court to order the singer to abandon the plan. Abercrombie has held a trademark for the word "fierce" since 2003, according to the lawsuit it filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Columbus.

Beyoncé, who released an album in 2008 called "I am ... Sasha Fierce," will unfairly benefit from the reputation Abercrombie has built for the scent and could confuse customers into thinking Abercrombie is associated with her fragrance, the retailer claimed in its lawsuit.
