The pair told police they were returning to their parked car about 3:55 a.m. when they noticed a man seated in the right-front passenger seat.
The couple said they confronted the man who then pointed a handgun at them and demanded the purse from the woman and the car keys from the man.
Police said the robber hit the woman, 39, with the handgun and took her purse, while the man, 36, dropped the keys on the ground and ran.
The robber retrieved the keys and sped away in the stolen car, taking the purse with him.
About 4:20 a.m., the stolen car was found unoccupied in Kalihi, police said. They reported finding a clear plastic bag inside the car containing a crystalline substance that appeared to be methamphetamine.
