A male infant was in critical condition yesterday after he was pulled from the waters around Sand Island Beach Park yesterday afternoon, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city's emergency services department.

Paramedics responded to the call shortly after 3 p.m. Bystanders were performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the boy when paramedics arrived, Cheplic said.

The boy was taken to a local area hospital.
