Elderly man dies after being pulled from water by surfers
A man believed to be in his 70s died after he was found unresponsive in waters just off of Kaka'ako Waterfront Park yesterday.
Surfers in the area pulled the man from the water around 9:40 a.m. and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until paramedics arrived.
The man was taken in critical condition to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
O'ahu's south shore — including the area between Point Panic and Flys where the man was found — experienced an above-average southerly swell yesterday of three- to five-foot waves and occasional six-foot waves yesterday, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city's emergency services department.
