District park pool closed temporarily for repairs
The city has temporarily closed the Kailua District Park swimming pool after workers discovered a mechanical malfunction of a critical valve on the pool's pumping system.
The city plans to have the pool reopened early next week.
A consultant inspected and recommended that the pool pump and pool be shut down until repair to the valve is done. The malfunction of the valve was due to vibration caused by the pump.
The consultant and manufacturer have worked out a design and will provide an isolation joint to protect the valve. The Department of Design and Construction is arranging to airfreight replacement parts and anticipates that the work will be completed by this weekend.
