A 58-year-old Waipahu man was arrested yesterday on a weapons charge that stemmed from a motorcycle crash he was involved in about two weeks ago.
Police said the man was injured in the Aug. 23 crash and taken to a hospital to be treated.
The man had a backpack with him when he arrived at the hospital and workers there inventoried the contents according to the hospital’s procedures.
Among the items found in the backpack was a loaded handgun, and police were notified.
Since the injured man had been admitted to the hospital, he was not immediately arrested, police said.
But after he was released, the man turned himself in at the main police station where he was interviewed, arrested and booked yesterday on suspicion of failing to keep a firearm in a proper place.
He was later released without bail pending further investigation.
