BYUH runner sets mark

Brigham Young-Hawai'i's Brendan McMaster set a school record in winning the men's race of the Hawai'i Pacific Invitational cross country meet Saturday at Kualoa Ranch.
McMaster, a senior from Tempe, Ariz., finished the 8-kilometer course in 24 minutes, 52 seconds to shave 33 seconds off the previous school best. Humboldt State's Andrew Sylvester placed second in 25:01.
Humboldt State runners placed second, third, fourth, fifth and seventh to win the team competition with 21 points. HPU, led by Jon Cleghorn's sixth-place finish in 25:54, finished second with 72 points.
University of Hawai'i senior Jessica Forrester, a transfer from the University of Tampa, finished second in the women's 5-kilometer race in 18:05. Theresia Schnurr of Alaska-Fairbanks won in 17:58.BYUH, led by Katherine Buxton's fifth-place finish in 18:51, won the team competition with 49 points. Humboldt State, led by Megan Rolland's third-place finish in 18:39, finished second with 52 points.

KOZUMA TEAMS WITH ORIDE TO WIN EVENT
Corey Kozuma of Kane'ohe and Kelli Oride of Lihu'e captured the Mixed Team Championship yesterday at the Po'ipu Bay Golf Course on Kaua'i.
Kozuma and Oride won the Hawai'i State Junior Golf Association event by six strokes.
They teamed to shoot 67 Saturday in four-ball stroke play, then finished with a 75 in foursome stroke play yesterday in windy conditions.
Levi Miyashiro and Cassy Isagawa (71-77—148) finished second by scorecard playoff over Reo Saito and Eimi Koga (73-75—148).
