No. 8 Ole Miss overwhelms Memphis, 45-14

Associated Press

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Jevan Snead sure knows how to finish.

The Mississippi quarterback recovered from an awful start to throw two late touchdowns and Dexter McCluster scored twice to lead the No. 8 Rebels to a 45-14 win over Memphis yesterday.

Snead hit 4 of 5 passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, breaking open a close game.

"Another thing you have to love about Jevan is that when things don't go just right, he doesn't put his head down," Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt said. "You don't have to be concerned about that."

Snead completed just 8 of 17 passes for 102 yards with two interceptions through three quarters, missing badly at times.

In the fourth quarter, McCluster scored on a 1-yard run and caught a 17-yard scoring pass from Snead.

COLORADO STATE 23, COLORADO 17:

Senior Grant Stucker celebrated his first collegiate start by throwing for a touchdown and leading visiting Colorado State on five scoring drives in the Rams' victory over Colorado.

Stucker threw a 13-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to running back John Mosure, who also had a 1-yard TD run.

Stucker finished 10 of 17 for 208 yards with two interceptions for Colorado State, which led 17-0.

NOTES

Oklahoma: A day after Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford was knocked out of Oklahoma's season opener with a shoulder injury, Oklahoma's coaching staff is still awaiting word on when the quarterback will be able to play again.

Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson says the Sooners' medical staff is gathering information to determine what treatment options are available, and how long Bradford would be out.

The injury to Bradford's right, throwing shoulder has been called a sprained AC joint. Purdue quarterback Curtis Painter missed two games last season and played as a reserve three weeks after injuring the joint.

Bradford was hurt just before halftime in Oklahoma's 14-13 loss to BYU on Saturday.

Oregon: Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount called Boise State defensive end Byron Hout and coach Chris Petersen to apologize for the punch he threw following Thursday's game between the two teams.

Blount and Ducks coach Chip Kelly made the conciliatory phone call Saturday.

Hout yelled in Blount's face after Boise State's 19-8 victory and tapped him on the shoulder pad before catching the right to the jaw from Blount.

On Friday, Kelly suspended Blount for the rest of the season.
