MINNEAPOLIS — John David Booty’s release from the Minnesota Vikings was a short one.
The second-year quarterback from Southern California was signed to the eight-man practice squad on Sunday, one day after he was waived as the team trimmed its roster to the regular-season limit of 53.
Booty was joined on the practice squad by safety Colt Anderson, offensive tackle Chris Clark, running back Ian Johnson, defensive tackle Tremaine Johnson, tight end Garrett Mills, wide receiver Nick Moore and offensive tackle Drew Radovich.
Booty was eligible for the practice squad because he was active for one only game as a rookie last season. He was waived after a shaky performance against the Dallas Cowboys in the preseason finale on Friday.
Some speculated that Mills might get claimed by another team despite his injury history. When healthy, he has shown talent as a receiver. But he has appeared in only nine games in three seasons primarily because he’s been plagued by injuries.
Radovich made the 53-man roster as a rookie in 2008 but was placed on injured reserve after being inactive for the first six games.
Showing restraint
Ian Johnson had a vested interest in the outcome of Thursday’s Boise State-Oregon game. Johnson was a star running back at Boise State, and like everyone else, he was disappointed with what happened after his alma mater’s 19-8 victory against Oregon.
Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount sucker-punched Boise State’s Byron Hout in the jaw after a brief exchange on the field after the game. Blount then had to restrained from going after fans in the stands. He was suspended from the team for the rest of the season on Friday.
“I think it’s a shame that that takes away from the game because Boise State did come out and played a really good game,” Johnson said. “Everyone has been giving me a hard time because my guys didn’t fight back. But I know our team is taught, don’t retaliate no matter what because the guy that retaliates gets it the worst. (Hout) took it on the chin and now look what happened to Blount. It’s sad that had to happen but you can’t be fighting.”

The Detroit Lions claimed cornerback Marcus McCauley after the Vikings former third-round draft pick was waived on Saturday, according to the Detroit News.
