University of Hawai'i baseball coach Mike Trapasso added four all-conference junior college players to the 2010 recruiting class, bringing the total to 10 recruits enrolled in school this fall.
The four are Collin Bennett, Zach Gallagher, David Freitas and Blair Walters.
Bennett, a sophomore outfielder from Tacoma Community College, batted .391 and earned first-team all-NWAACC (Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges) honors in 2009.
Gallagher, a pitcher from Columbia Basin, also earned first-team all-NWAACC honors, while also being named NWAACC Eastern Division MVP. He went 11-1 in 2009 with a 1.08 ERA in 92 innings with 86 strikeouts.
Freitas, a catcher from Cosumnes River College, hit .333 and was a 2009 Northern California All-American. He also earned all-Big 8 Conference honors during both seasons that he played at Cosumnes. Freitas chose UH over Southern California and Kentucky.
Walters, a two-way player from Ventura College, earned all-Western State North first-team honors in 2009. He hit .316 and was 5-4 in 78.2 innings, striking out 51 with a 3.43 ERA.
Bennett and Gallagher were late signees, while Freitas and Walters both signed in July.
The Rainbows already have signed local products, outfielder Breland Almadova ('Iolani), infielder Pi'ikea Kitamura (Kamehameha), third baseman/pitcher Trent Allianic (Kaua'i) and infielder Kalani Brackenridge (Kapolei), along with pitcher /first baseman Derek Brown (Woodstock High School, Illinois) and pitcher Randy Yard (Central Arizona JC).
UH also has commitments for the 2011 season from 'Iolani outfielder/pitcher Jarrett Arakawa, Campbell pitcher Kale Ka'alekahi and Kamehameha catcher Keanu Carmichael. The earliest the three can sign national letters of intent is November.
