UH golf finishes fourth on Kauai

University of San Diego defended its title at the Kaua'i Collegiate Invitational yesterday, taking the top four places individually to cruise to a 30-shot victory at Puakea Golf Course in Líhu'e.
Hawai'i sophomore TJ Kua, who is from Kaua'i, finished fifth at 70—210, to help the Warriors place fourth. It was Kua's best collegiate finish and Hawai'i's best NCAA result since it was second at the 2007 Western Athletic Conference Tournament.
San Diego shot 9-under-par 279 yesterday and had a three-day total of 35-under 829. James Madison (286—859) was the only other team to break par in the 10-team field. Sacramento State (287—865) was next, followed by Hawai'i (296—869).
San Diego's Joseph Harrison took medalist honors at 69—205; he was not part of USD's five-man team. Punahou graduate Alex Ching, a USD sophomore, was next at 68—206.
Jared Sawada, another UH sophomore, tied for 25th at 80—220. Junior Kamden Brakel (71—222) was 28th, freshman Alex Chu (78—223) 31st and freshman Cory Oride (76—229) 41st.

SILVERSWORDS SPLIT
Keenan Ho scored two goals, both on assists from Jensen Takiguchi, as host Chaminade beat Academy of Art, 2-0, yesterday in a men's match at Saint Louis field.
Ho and Brandon Salvador each had three shots on goal for the Silverswords (3-11, 2-9). Kalani High grad Daniel Higa took three shots for the Urban Knights (4-12-1, 1-10).
In the women's match, Aubrey Williams scored in the 79th minute as Academy of Art beat Chaminade, 1-0.
Carmela Doerr had five shots on goal for the Urban Knights (2-13-2, 2-7-2). Marissa Minor made 10 saves for the Silverswords (0-14, 0-11).
TENNIS
CLINIC AT UH
Players of all ages are invited to the University of Hawai'i Tennis Monster Smash Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
The free event starts with an exhibition involving the UH men's and women's teams. It will be followed by a clinic led by the UH coaches. Participants must wear proper tennis shoes.
There will also be a costume contest and free Halloween candy for kids.
