The state Department of Health’s Clean Water Branch said this morning that an estimated 3,500 gallons of sewage have entered Kanaha Stream in Papakolea.
The agency says it was notified by the city of a sewer manhole overflow behind 2289 Tantalus Drive, on Hawaiian Home Lands.
City crews located the overflow after both the city and state received complaints about sewage odors.
The state says city crews cleared the obstruction in the lines.
The public is advised to stay out of Kanaha Stream.
