A 21-year-old Kihei man was critically injured Tuesday night when the motorcycle he was operating rear-ended a sedan on Mokulele Highway, Maui police said this morning.
The collision took place shortly after 10:30, about a mile south of Hansen Road in Kahului.
Police said both vehicles were traveling south when the motorcycle struck the car and slid on the road.
The sedan, driven by a 62-year-old Kihei woman, went onto the grass median and overturned.
Both people were taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center. The woman was being held for observation Tuesday night.
Police said the man was wearing a helmet. They said speed may be a factor in the crash.
