Radford High School assistant athletic director Kai Enos’ was moved out of Straub Clinic and Hospital’s intensive care unit yesterday after his condition improved dramatically following a surf accident on Sunday, Radford AD Kelly Sur said.
Sur said Enos, a former standout basketball and football player at Kaimukï and boys basketball coach at Radford, was surfing at Kewalo Basin late Sunday morning when he was knocked unconscious after catching a big wave.
He was seen floating face-down in the water by a nearby off-duty lifeguard, who assisted with an off-duty doctor in administering CPR and bringing Enos to shore.
Enos was then taken to Straub, where he was listed in critical condition.
“It was touch-and-go for a while,” Sur said.
But Sur said Enos regained consciousness around 11 p.m. and was able to recognize friends and family.
Enos is the father of current University of Hawaii men’s basketball walk-on Rykin Enos, a former football and basketball standout at Kamehameha Schools.
