Soccer: Donovan wins Honda award as player of year

LOS ANGELES — Landon Donovan has won the Honda player of the year award as the best player on the U.S. national soccer team for a record-breaking sixth time.
Donovan received the award and a new car Tuesday in Los Angeles.
He earned a total of 424 points in voting by U.S. sports media. Goalkeeper Tim Howard finished second with 267 and forward Jozy Altidore was third with 175.
Donovan has scored a leading 42 goals during his 120 games with the U.S. national team.
The 27-year-old Los Angeles Galaxy forward first won the award in 2002 and repeated the next two years. He won again in 2007 and 2008.
