INDIMIX @ INDIGO
It's Metromix Honolulu's first anniversary month, and the interactive, partycentric Web site is celebrating with a series of events. The first is a pau hana mixer at Indigo, with (check it out!) free food — samples from the new items on Indigo's lunch buffet, during the first hour. Wash 'em down with some brand-new martini flavors, including the new BLUE Metromix martini. Indimix @ Indigo goes down 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday at Indigo, 1121 Nuuanu Ave., and is open to everyone 21 and older; free; 521-2900.
FALLING FOR FASHION
Technically, it's fall — and to dress the part, we're suggesting a few fall must-have styles. This week, we're highlighting items from Second Skin boutique, Ward Centre; 593-1056.
Our hot pick mixes intense, charcoal grays with a slight hint of color and white for balance.
For the men: charcoal jeans are hot. Our model wears gray Gap Authentic Fit denim ($88); feel free to DIY your own holes to give it that worn-in feel. Style your look with a two-toned American Apparel top ($22), and the exclusive light-weight DSL55 "Jailbird" Jacket ($159 at Second Skin). The jacket is totally fall-worthy, providing protection for a sudden downpour, yet light enough to wear on a typical sunny Hawaiian day.
Feeling a little girly? A black lace and charcoal-gray cotton cocktail dress designed by Audrey ($39 at Second Skin) mixes prettiness with a little femme fatale. Pair this dress with a black, slight kitten heel to make this outfit appropriate for the office.

GO WATCH DA KINE
Ho brah, what, you talk pidgin? You know, da kine — part-English, part-Hawaiian, Por-da-gee and practically every ethnicity you can think of, all combined into one language. From its early beginnings in the sugarcane fields through today, everyone in Hawaii has come across some form of pidgin, whether you speak it yourself, or have overheard a conversation in the manapua lunchwagon line. Get some historical and academic background on pidgin, alongside some kamaäina pride, from "Pidgin: The Voice of Hawai'i," (right) screening today as part of the Hawaii International Film Festival. Ho cuz, we go check 'em out, 7 p.m. today, Sunset on the Beach, Waikíkí; free. Find out more at www.hiff.org.

DJ LEGEND'S HAWAI'I SESSIONS
Before there were all these indie-hipster DJs, loud electro mash-ups and banging bass lines, there were house DJs like Mark Farina. The legendary DJ started his music career in the grime of Chicago and Detroit in the late '80s. He earned his fame by combining moody jazz, electronic house beats and early hip-hop to produce the Mushroom Jazz genre, which took off in San Francisco through Om Records.
Throughout the years, Farina has produced more than eight mix-albums, with more than 100,000 sold worldwide. He's on a worldwide tour to promote his latest album with New York's Ministry of Sound, "Sessions," and he lands in Hawaii this week.
Don't miss a session with the legend: 9 p.m. Thursday at the Sheraton Hotel, Kauai, 808-742-1661; 10 p.m. Friday at the Cellar, 744 Front St., Lahaina, Maui, 808-661-3744; and 10 p.m. Saturday at Pipeline Caf[0xe9], 805 Pohukaina St., 589-1999. Tickets: www.groovetickets.com. Find out more at www.mushroommusicfestival.com.

SALES & BARGAINS
• Head over to Kaimukí's unique yoga lifestyle boutique Lily Lotus for a jewelry trunk show featuring local designers Maya Papaya and Jewelry by Justine, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow. Shop the new collections and save 30 percent — and while you're there, find jewelry bargains in the basket of steals. Take a load off while you shop with free chair massages too, and feel good about supporting local businesses and boutiques. Lily Lotus, 1127 12th Ave., across the street from Hale Vietnam; 735-3400, www.lilylotus.com.
• With Halloween just a week away, it's high time to get your costume together ... right? If you're in some need of inspiration, check out Flora Dec. The shop has a massive costume collection, and the rows and rows of floral decor just might get you on track to creating a look of your own —nymph, anyone? You're only as limited as you let yourself be. Be wild, or tame, but save yourself some disappointment by working on it now. Flora Dec, 373 N. Nimitz Highway; 537-6194, www.floradec.com.
• Shopping tip: You want the deals, but don't want to sift through piles, or deal with the wandering masses? If you're on a mission and need something specific, an evening after work but before dinner can be a great time to shop. You'll avoid the weekend crowds, and often get more attention from the sales staff since there are fewer folks on the floor to compete with. Markdowns at most stores happen between Sunday and Tuesday, just after the weekend rush, and before the following weekend.
