‘Princess Ka'iulani Suite’ premieres this weekend

The Honolulu Symphony Orchestra will premiere Academy Award winner Stephen Warbeck’s “Princess Ka'iulani Suite” this weekend to celebrate Hawai'i’s 50th anniversary of statehood and the debut of the locally produced film “Barbarian Princess” at the Honolulu Film Festival.

Guest conductor Gerald Schwarz of the Seattle Symphony will lead the concerts at 8 tonight and 4 p.m. tomorrow. In addition, pianist Arnaldo Cohen will be featured in the program, which includes Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 “Pathétique.”
Tickets are $19 to $70 and are available at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 800-745-3000 and online at www.ticketmaster.com and www.honolulusymphony.com. In addition, $10 student or child tickets and 20 percent senior and military discounts may be available at the box office before concert time.
