Tips on how to give 'the talk'
| |||
Parents who want to be their children's source of information on the facts of life but aren't sure how to initiate "the talk" can get advice at free workshops in Kailua or Kaimukí.
The "I'm Askable" workshops, presented by Planned Parenthood of Hawaii, will provide parents with information about puberty and teenage pregnancy, as well as advice on how to let the youths in their lives know that they're receptive to questions.
The workshops are 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kaläheo High School, room D-105, and 5:30 p.m. Oct. 27 in the Kaimukí High School library. Free pizza, beverages and child care will be provided. For more information, call Kathleen Stofocik at 341-2540 or e-mail kstofocik@pphi.org.
STANDING UP TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Men and boys are invited to take a stand for the victims of domestic violence, and to march during the 15th annual Men's March Against Violence today, sponsored by Catholic Charities Hawaii, the Domestic Violence Action Center, and Kapiolani Community College.
"Men play a significant role in domestic violence and should therefore be a significant part of the solution," said Joe Bloom, Catholic Charities program director and Men's March Against Violence founder/coordinator. "Awareness is a crucial step in finding a solution."
The event begins at noon at the state Capitol rotunda, with the march to follow at 12:20 p.m. Speakers from the Hawaii Poets Slam, families, and the Legislature will lead a pledge of nonviolence. All are welcome. A rally will follow.
