The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Oçahu through midnight tonight.
Weather radar shows a band of nearly stationary rainfall near Waianae, about 24 miles northwest of Honolulu, the weather service said. At 9 p.m. rain in excess of an inch an hour is being reported at rain gages at the Wilson Tunnel.
The weather service is advising that Makua Valley, Makaha and Makaha Valley could also see heavy rainfall.Other areas included in the advisory are Mililani Town, Punaluu, Waiahole, Whitmore Village, Waikane, Wahiawa, Schofield Barracks,Kahaluu, Kaaawa and Hauula.
The advisory recommends that residents stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas that are prone to flooding.
The advisory maybe extended, if the heavy rainfall persists, the weather service says. An advisory means that rainfall and runoff can cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding and can reduce visibility.
