Personal picks: HIFF's best S. Korean movies
By Jeff Chung
Ten South Korean films will be shown at the 29th Annual Hawaii International Film Festival Oct. 15-18, and you can find synopses of them in this column through Oct. 16.
My personal picks are HIFF's opening-night film "Mother (Won Bin)," which won an award at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year; "Scandal Makers" (a surprise hit in South Korea); "A Frozen Flower (Cho In Sung and Ju Jin Mo)" and "Antique." Tickets went on sale Oct. 1 for HIFF Ohana members and go on sale Monday for the general public. Call 548-5905 or visit www.hiff.org for more information.

'HOME FROM HOME'
Director: Sung Hyung Cho
Three women, who left everything behind, including their children, to work in Germany as guest workers, return to South Korea after 30 years but find that just as it was in Germany, they feel like foreigners, severed from their roots even in South Korea.
