A Kailua man who admitted molesting five girls has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Craig Macdonald pleaded guilty last month to five sexual assault charges as part of a deal with prosecutors.

But at Monday's sentencing, the judge chose not to approve a plea agreement that would have given Macdonald concurrent sentences. Instead Judge Elizabeth Strance ordered him to serve up to 20 years for the charges of first-degree sexual assault and continuous sexual assault of a minor and another five years for three third-degree sexual assault charges.

The judge and prosecutors noted that Macdonald violated terms of his plea deal, in which he agreed not to drive in his subdivision during certain hours while out on bail because his victims live nearby. Strance also questioned his sincerity and remorse.
