Taking a stand for the victims of domestic violence, hundreds of men and boys will march in support of breaking the cycle of domestic violence in Hawaii during the 15th annual Men’s March Against Violence on Oct. 15.
“Men play a significant role in domestic violence and should therefore be a significant part of the solution,” said Joe Bloom, Catholic Charities Hawaii program director and Men’s March Against Violence Founder/Coordinator, in a press release. “We are here, as men, to pledge for non-violence and to honor and remember the victims we’ve lost this year. It is important to our community, and to the cause, that we spread the message of non-violence. Awareness is a crucial step in finding a solution.”
The event begins at noon at the State Capitol Rotunda, with a march around the Capitol block to follow at 12:20 p.m.
Speakers from the Hawaii Poets Slam, families, and the state legislature will lead a pledge of non-violence at Queen Liliuokalani Statue. A lei ceremony will conclude the commemoration.
Men are asked to march and all are welcome. A rally immediately follows the march.
Last year’s march included more than 250 participants, according to Catholic Charities Hawaii. The Men’s March began in 1995.
The Men’s March is sponsored by Catholic Charities Hawaii, Domestic Violence Action Center, and Kapiolani Community College. For more information, call 535-0159.
