Book signings on Oahu, Kauai, and Maui are coming up for “Stories of Aloha: Homegrown Treasures of Hawaii.”
The new release by Hula Moon Press benefits the Lokahi for Aloha Fund for former Aloha Airlines employees. Aloha Airlines closed its doors in March 2008.
A book launch will be held Saturday at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Ala Moana Center. Hula dancer Kanoe Miller and Hawaiian falsetto singer Ryan Kamakakehau Fernandez, both of whom are profiled in the book, will perform at 1 p.m., followed by a book signing at 2 p.m. by author Jocelyn Fujii and photographer Brett Uprichard.
“Stories of Aloha: Homegrown Treasures of Hawaii” revisits the airline, its employees, and the individuals and local mom-and-pop businesses highlighted in its inflight magazine. The book is a compilation of more than 130 stories and essays culled from hundreds written by Fujii in Spirit of Aloha, the airline’s inflight magazine, from 1985 to 2008. Actor Richard Chamberlain wrote the foreword.
Barnes & Noble Ala Moana is also donating a percentage of the sales from every purchase — CDs, DVDs, items from the coffee bar, “Stories of Aloha,” and other books — from the entire weekend of Oct. 2-4 to the Lokahi for Aloha Fund, to anyone who mentions Lokahi or Aloha Airlines at the counter. A “Stories of Aloha” eco-bag is a complimentary gift with purchases of three or more copies, as long as supplies last.
