TOKYO — Third-ranked Andy Murray of Britain has withdrawn from the Japan Open because of a wrist injury.
The Japan Tennis Association said Thursday that Murray needed more recovery time for his left wrist, which bothered him at the U.S. Open.
Last week, top-ranked Roger Federer pulled out of the Oct. 5-11 event, citing fatigue.
Fifth-ranked Juan Martin del Potro, the U.S. Open champion, is now the highest-ranked player in the singles draw.
