Weather service predicts big surf on eastern shores
The National Weather Service has issued a high-surf advisory until this morning for the east-facing shores of O'ahu, Maui, the Big Island, Kaua'i, Moloka'i and Ni'ihau.
A cold low system in the middle atmosphere also is expected to bring heavy showers and possibly thunderstorms across the Islands today.
Rough and choppy surf was expected overnight from trade winds and a swell coming in from the north-northeast. The high-surf advisory will remain in effect until 6 a.m. today, when waves are expected to reach six to eight feet.
