Get artsy for the holidays
Now that Black Friday has come and gone, there’s other shopping to be done.
Through tomorrow, the Islandwide Christmas Craft and Food Expo is taking over the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall, with 450 vendors offering holiday gifts and decorations and lots of food from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow. If you want crafts, but not the crowd, Mission Houses Museum is having its annual holiday craft sale today and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring locally made crafts, jewelry, clothing, quilts and art, along with activities, food and entertainment. Call 447-3923 for more information.
For a more global shopping experience, Honolulu Academy of Arts opens its annual World Art Bazaar, featuring indigenous crafts from a variety of cultures, with items for almost every budget. The items for sale include Indian costume jewelry (handpainted enamel earrings and necklaces from Rajasthan), vintage Japanese paper stencils of family crests and ikebana baskets, ceramics, lacquer, antique African beads, vintage Chinese containers and furniture details and Zuni fetishes (small stone animal carvings). The bazaar runs through Dec. 13 in the Academy Art Center at Linekona from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.
Today and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Academy Art Center is also hosting the Honolulu Printmakers Impressions Benefit Print Sale, featuring etchings, engravings, lithographs, screenprints and woodcuts by Hawaiçi artists. This year, the sale includes T-Shirts on Demand, with shirts printed while you wait and a special portfolio celebrating the canonization of Father Damien de Veuster.

For more local art options, head to the Arts District in Chinatown today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to check out the galleries’ holiday gifts — many on sale — including antique jewelry, crafts, a Christmas sidewalk sale, holiday gift boxes and special treats at area bars and restaurants.
Windward Community College has even more art and crafts for sale at Gallery Iolani’s A Christmas Fantasy, featuring work by students. The sale will be open today, tomorrow and Dec. 3-6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 235-1218 for more information.
