1949 — Boston College beats Holy Cross 76-0 as Al Cannava rushes for 229 yards.

1956 — In the Olympics held in Melbourne, Australia, Vyacheslav Ivanov of the Soviet Union wins the gold medal in the single sculls. After receiving the medal, he jumps up and down and accidentally drops the medal through the slats in the float and it sinks to the bottom of the lake.

1961 — Jerry Norton of St. Louis becomes the only NFL player to have four interceptions in a game twice, as he picks off four in the Cardinals' 30-27 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Two of the interceptions were returned for touchdowns.

1967 — Sonny Jurgensen of the Washington Redskins passes for 418 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-37 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

1982 — Larry Holmes wins a unanimous decision over Tex Cobb to retain the world heavyweight title in Houston.

1994 — The Dallas Mavericks, led by Jimmy Jackson's 50 points, beat the Denver Nuggets 124-123 in overtime after trailing by 25 points in the first half.

1997 — Charles Jones scores a school record 53 points and Long Island University beats Division III Medgar Evers 179-62, breaking the NCAA record for margin of victory. The 117-point difference eclipses the mark of 97 set by Southern University in a 154-57 victory over Patten on Nov. 26, 1993.

2005 — Marek Malik ends the NHL's longest shootout in the 15th round, fooling goalie Olie Kolzig with a trick shot to give the New York Rangers a 3-2 victory over the Washington Capitals. With only two healthy skaters left on the Rangers' bench, Malik, a defenseman, takes a shot with his stick between his skates and beats Kolzig for the victory.

2005 — Florida International ties an NCAA record by returning four interceptions for touchdowns in a 52-6 rout of rival Florida Atlantic. Keyonvis Bouie, Lionell Singleton, Nick Turnbull and Marshall McDuffie each score on interception returns.

2006 — Rookie Arizona quarterback Matt Leinart completes 31 of 51 passes for 405 yards in a 31-26 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
