Hawaii grocery shoppers can go 'green' with Foodbank donations

Advertiser Staff

Kraft Foods Hawaii and the Hawaii Foodbank have kicked off their 16th annual "Check Out Hunger" drive, with green scanner coupons at checkouts in many local grocery stores; customers use the coupons to donate to the Foodbank.

Kraft Foods started the drive with a $5,000 donation. The green coupons come in three denominations: $2.81 (which can feed a child breakfast for a week); $12.43, which can feed a senior lunch for a month, or $16.84, which feeds a family for a week. The coupons are run across the store scanner just as though they were a grocery item, and included in the customer's bill.
Participating stores include Safeway, Times, Don Quijote, Tamura's, Kokua Market and KTA Super Stores on the Big Island.
