Verizon Wireless opens new Kona store

Verizon Wireless will open its second "evolution" communications store today at Kona's Lanihau Center.

The newly remodeled store is double the size of the previous store at that location and offers consumers hands-on interaction with wireless voice, data, music and video services.

A traditional Hawaiian blessing ceremony and lei untying with kahu Henry Kahananui is scheduled.

Verizon opened its first evolution store in May in the Pacific Guardian Tower in Downtown Honolulu.

WORKSHOPS COVER UPDATES ON STATE TAXES

The state Department of Taxation will hold a series of workshops starting next week to provide tax professionals and the public with updates on tax laws, changes to tax forms and other new tax initiatives .

The workshops all run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with registration at 8 a.m.:

Kaua'i: Monday, Líhu'e, Kaua'i Community College, multipurpose room. Information, 808-245-8318.

KAUA'I OFFERS TAX RELIEF FOR FLOOD DAMAGE

Property owners whose real property sustained damage as a result of the recent flood disaster may be eligible for disaster tax relief, Kaua'i County announced today.

Claims can be made on damage that resulted directly from floodwaters overflowing the banks or walls of a nearby river or stream.

Damage due to insufficient drainage, runoff or ponding, along with damage to personal and other nonstructural property, including crops, is not eligible.

Claim forms are available at www.kauai.gov and at the Real Property Tax office in the Kapule Building at the Líhu'e Civic Center.

The deadline to file a claim for disaster tax relief is Jan. 14 or within 60 days of the disaster. For more information, call the Real Property Tax office at 808-241-4224.
