Names, photographs of DUI arrestees to be posted on HPD Web page
Beginning a week from today, police will start posting on the Honolulu Police Department’s Web page a link directing viewers to a site containing the names and photographs of everyone arrested and charged during the preceding week with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The Web site can be found at www.honolulupd.org.
Maj. Thomas Nitta, head of HPD’s Traffic Division, said police officials are hopeful the public posting of DUI arrestees will serve as a further deterrent to getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.
Nitta said about 70 to 80 DUI arrests per week occur on Oahu. There were 4,315 DUI arrests during all of 2008 and 3,615 so far this year as of today. The year-to-date figure includes the 186 that have been made as of today during November, Nitta said.
The names and photographs of those arrested will remain posted for 24 hours.
