Marine-salvage company Cates International today was able to remove a sailboat that ran aground off Waikiki on Monday, the Department of Land and Natural Resources said.
The 72-foot Momentum was in one piece early this morning from its reef location 100 yards off the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.
The vessel was towed to the Keehi Small Boat Harbor loading dock where it was inspected. Divers found a 30-foot hole in the port side of the wooden hull and the surveyor will be assessing that the vessel is a total loss.
DLNR's Boating Division will work with the Cates International crew to utilize a portion of state property to dispose of the vessel.
