Sailboat aground off Waikiki may be removed tomorrow

The Department of Land and Natural Resources said marine salvage company Cates International has signed a contract to carry out the removal of a grounded vessel off the Sheraton Waikiki.
A broken anchor line reportedly caused the 72-foot sailboat Momentum to drift toward shore and run aground early Monday, state officials said.
The Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation has received the salvage plan, which is for the salvor to begin rigging the vessel today starting about 1:30 p.m. A small boat with crew will be rigging float bags to the vessel.
The tentative plan calls for removal between 3 and 5 a.m. Wednesday during high tide, weather conditions permitting. A tugboat will come in to pull the vessel off the reef.
Depending on the condition of the vessel, it could go to Keehi Marine Center if any work is needed.
The Momentum is about 100 yards off shore the Sheraton Waikiki in the "Pops" surf break.
