ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels says he won’t know until later in the week if quarterback Kyle Orton’s sprained left ankle will prevent him from playing against San Diego.
Orton was injured just before halftime of Denver’s 27-17 loss at Washington on Sunday after throwing for nearly 200 yards and two long touchdowns to Brandon Marshall. He was replaced by rusty Chris Simms, who completed just three of 13 passes for 13 yards.
The Chargers have wiped out Denver’s 3›-game lead in the AFC West over the last month and now both teams are 6-3 heading into their showdown Sunday at Invesco Field.
