Concert benefits Sämoa relief efforts

Hawai'i's Sämoan musical community will raise funds to aid tsunami relief efforts in Sämoa at a "Rise Up Relief Concert" today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Honolulu Central Seventh-day Adventist Church, at 2313 Nu'uanu Ave. Performing will be the Samoan Gospel Heralds, Anita Hall, the Ragazzi Ensemble of the Hawaii Youth Opera Choir, and local gospel groups. Donations for the relief efforts will be accepted during the concert, which is free and open to the public.

The Mililani Mauka/Launani Valley Neighborhood Board will hear details on a proposal by the U.S. Army's 25th Infantry Aviation Brigade to expand flight hours to 11 p.m. daily during a board meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Mililani Mauka Elementary School cafeteria. Representatives from the 25th Infantry Aviation Brigade will be present to answer questions. Kapi'olani Community College students will host the school's first Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 3. Prospective STEM program students and their families will learn more about the program through educational booths and activities. Hawai'i high school students considering a science- or technology-based major in college are encouraged to attend.

In remembrance of the 68th anniversary of Pearl Harbor, Kapolei Public Library will display "Dark Clouds over Paradise: The Hawaii Internees Story," an exhibit presented by the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i. The exhibit will be on display from Dec. 1 to 19 in the second-floor lobby. On Dec. 5, local storyteller Nyla Fujii-Babb will share a collection of stories about Hawai'i families who coped with the war "local" style at 11 a.m. in the main lobby. Call 693-7050.

Windward Mall continues to celebrate the grand opening of its new food court this weekend with a performance by Hoku Zuttermeister today at 2 p.m. A special meet and greet and book reading with Curious George will take place at 10 a.m. today, in addition to free crafts for keiki all morning.
