HULA-LA, JAMSWORLD OPEN AT ROYAL HAWAIIAN

Kailua-based swimwear designer Erika Ireland has just opened her first flagship boutique in the Royal Hawaiian hotel. "The Royal has always been my favorite and I thought it would be a good fit with Hula-la," Ireland said. As an incentive for local people to make the foray into Waikíkí, she is offering a 20 percent discount to all kama'äina.

Right next door, in the Royal Hawaiian Center, a flagship JamsWorld store has opened. The store features a full line of JamsWorld clothing for men, women and children, Surf Line Hawai'i clothing and a few denim and accessories brands that complement the Island attire. It's on the ground floor in Building A, next to Lanai Transit Hawai'i.

MICHE BAG CHRISTMAS SALE

Vicky Cayetano, Terri Otani and Ginny Tiu are holding a holiday trunk show and sale of Miche bags from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Waialae Country Club. They're introducing the "big bag," which comes in three new styles with multiple pockets inside and out to hold everything a multitasking woman needs to carry. Information: 223-6439 or 271-3728.

ALOHA SHIRTS FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Kalihi-based fashion designer Nake'u Awai has created his own Christmas shirt, featuring silk-screened male hula dancers over a design of evergreen trees with silvered glitz turned upside down.

You can find the shirts at his studio, 1613 Houghtailing St., or his annual holiday musical event.

Awai also recently introduced a collection featuring Japanese "wild prints," as he calls them, in addition to his signature silk-screened Hawaiian motifs. He also produces a rarity: good-looking men's long-sleeved aloha shirts.

Awai's popular holiday revue is set for Dec. 5, at the Koolau Ballroom, (Ko'olau Golf Clubhouse, 45-550 Ki'ona'ole Road, Käne'ohe). There's a marketplace at 9:30 a.m., lunch at 11:15 a.m. and show at 12:15 p.m. The show, "I'll Buy You a Star," is inspired by the song from "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn." A few tickets, $48, are still available: 841-1221.
