New dramas 'Smile,' 'Queen Seon Duk' start
By Jeff Chung
Two new dramas starting on KBFD this week will keep you entertained with their diverse story lines.
"Smile, Honey" is a modern drama about members of a once-wealthy family adjusting to new lives in financial ruin. One of South Korea's most sought-after actresses of 2009, Lee Min-jeong ("Boys Before Flowers"), stars as Suh-jung, whose life is turned upside-down after her own family loses its fortune and she is dumped by her husband, whose family is in the automobile industry. She and her family move in with their former chauffeur and are forced to adjust their lifestyles. The series will replace "Style" on Fridays and Saturdays.
On Mondays and Tuesdays at 9:25 p.m., "Lure of Wife" will be replaced by the period drama "The Great Queen Seon Duk," the story of a queen who has to give up her love to save her people and two beautiful women who are rivals for the throne: Lee Yo-won and Koh Hyun-jung. Featuring colorful costumes, an entertaining cast and a storyline about palace politics and the rise to power during the Silla dynasty, the series has such high ratings in South Korea that its original 50-episode run has already been extended to 62 episodes.
